U.S. Men's World Championships Marathon Qualifying Window Extended

USA Track & Field Men's Long Distance Running Committee has extended the
qualifying window for the 2001 World Championships Marathon team from
February 4 to February 18, 2001.

As announced earlier, U.S. men's roster spots at the Worlds have been offered
to the top three finishers at the 2000 Olympic Marathon Trials (Rod DeHaven,
Peter DeLaCerda and Mark Coogan). DeHaven, the 2000 Olympic Trials marathon
champion, has said he will not compete in Edmonton. The remaining spots on
the U.S. men's five-member marathon team for Edmonton will be filled by those
running the fastest marathon times between January 1, 2000 and February 18,
2001.

The men's marathon--to be held August 3, 2001--opens the 2001 IAAF World
Championships hosted by Edmonton, Canada. For more information on the Worlds,
