I wasn't implying that he was the only one ever. It was a rhetorical
question. Clearly when the 1500m-equivalent times are considered there
are/have been others.
However, in HS you have zero chances of running a 1500m on a regular basis
(Unless you live in Oregon or Connecticut [I think]).
I was just saying: He is the fastest 10th-grader ever (Mile), Fastest
indoor miler ever, had PR's of 49, 1:49, 3:59i, and 8:45i going into the
meet ...
... and he dropped his PR by 7-8 seconds.
Webb didn't say he was the second-coming, none of us did either. But, some
of us seem determined to show some statistical evidence of why/how Webb is
inferior to Ryun (or Morceli, El G, or Cram) at such-and-such age, and
Ritzenhein is inferior to Lindgren,etc.
Ten years ago the media kept badgering Lance Armstrong with whether he was
"the next LeMond." He fired back: "No, I am the FIRST Lance Armstrong!"
Are these guys "better" than the big-3 from the 60's (Lindgren, Ryun, Pre)?
Who knows?
We are just happy to have them. Let's just let them be the first Al Webb,
Dathan Ritz, etc.
BRAVO to Sanchez, Ritz and Webb!
P.S. Aren't there a LOT of pointless questions that are posted here every
day?

Steve Holman's first-ever sub-4:00 was 3:53.31,but since I'm on the road,
don't have access to such details as to what his previoius best was. Holman
is only other American to run 3:53 in his debut sub-4:00 (based on the list
on the T&FN website). Internationally, could be a pointless question because
there may well be somebody who was already a 3:33 type 1500 guy and had
never
run a mile before running 3:50ish.
