without doing any actual research, i do recall that Bikila had appendicitis and was 
doubtful to compete in Tokyo at one point before winning his second Olympic title in 
'64. Add that to his not being much of a track runner, and that Ethiopians werent' 
trotting the globe back then and it may well ahve been his first (and only) race of 
the year.
