What if someone's shoe falls off, a likelihood in any XC race?  The chip
quick scoring would be thrown off if that happened to be the shoe with the
single chip, but I would hope the official re-examined results would pick
up the ommission.  One of our guys, who expects to be running at the DIII
nationals (where someone stated the chip will be used) in a few weeks,
already ran the last mile and a half of a race earlier this year without a
shoe...
