Kurt has overlooked what I think is the most interesting thing about the '83 WC 1500 race. In third place was none other than Yekaterina Podkopayeva, who was to defeat Decker (Slaney) 12 years later in the World Indoor Championships at the age of 42. In the interview after the race, Slaney acted like she didn't even know who Podkopayeva was.
