In the Phoenix BIOS there in no function 4x enable. I am not familiar with
a LARGE setting. Maybe this is something from before my time.

Subject: [temp t13] BIOS Large or LBA setting?

OK, here is something from the past(?)... Anyone have any opinions?

I received this question: In my x86 BIOS setup for my hard drives
should I select Large or LBA?

I have never seen a recommendation for an OS vendor about this. But
the question is interesting especially today when you probably can
not buy a new drive that is less than 10GB. As you should know the
Large or LBA CHS translation is in the BIOS to handle drives over
528MB but less than 8GB.

I know this is still important to at least one OS vendor since they
seem to require that their OS boots from a partition that is <= 2GB
and it must be located at the front of the disk. This is because
(sorry Curtis but my friends complain all the time that the OSs from
this vendor do this and I have seen nothing so far to indicate
otherwise) these OSs are still using the old INT 13H AH=0xH functions
(CHS based and restricted to the first 8GB of the drive) to start the
OS boot process.

I would think that if a BIOS found that a drive was over 8GB it
would: a) have to support the INT 13H AH=4xH calls and b) it would
select Large or LBA for use with the old BIOS functions, and it would
do this without asking the user anything. What are we going to see
BIOS doing when drives are over 137GB? Are they still going to be
confusing people by requiring a human to select between Large and
LBA?

Any comments?
