Dear Peter,
I thought I should clarify what I said in my last email. I was in a hurry
when I sent it off. What I meant was, I am going to revisit several chapters
in your TTW book. I read most of it many years ago when I purchased it and
because it is my tablet weaving "bible", I tend to read what I need to know
at the moment and it is obvious that I need to read more of it. Also, I did
know that bands can be made in many ways, such as inkle, kumihimo but I
hadn't actually realized that warp twining could be done in other ways other
than tablet weaving. I am aware of Linda's exploration in ply splitting but
haven't tried it myself. There is only so much time in ones life and I have
narrowed my skills to handweaving, spinning and tablet weaving. Knowing more
about other techniques is something I should explore further if only to
understand more clearly what I DO know.Does that make sense?
All the best,
Judy

Yes, Judy Chapman, there are many ways of producing warp-twined textiles
without tablets. TTW, Chapter 17 describes and illustrates eight, namely,
Ply-Split Darning, Loop-Manipulation, using the Aya-Take-dai and the
Maru-Dai, finger manipulation of stretched threads, throwing warp over stiff
weft, using the "Triller" and industrial methods.

Reading last and first chapters of a book can be rewarding!,

Peter Collingwood
