I totally agree on this point. Lets use the dojo functionality. The other issue I had is bug34 which seems to be fixed by jesse. As I didn't get a mail notification from the bugtracker on this bug (BTW, any chance to register somewhere for getting these notifications?), I just realised this yesterday so I couldn't try if it works for me now. I will wait until you are finished with the floatingpane and give it a new try.
