I don't ~think~ you'll have any problems doing that with the tree, the drop targets really only play with the html content..

It has been a while since I played with them though, and it's even possible they are broken in some way right now. (notice the drop targets example is missing from the demo). I haven't spent a lot of time on it recently as the community hasn't made me aware of it's usefullness yet. It's fairly lenient in the ways that you can configure it, especially with looped data, so I don't see you having any problems.
