I am interested in this as well. As i am new to Tacos how do I trap the start and end events of the cycle. I have seen the update components and effects parameters on the AJAXDirectlink but there does not seem to be any where to add custom _javascript_. Ideally I would like to have this div shown and hidden with every invocation of an ajax link. Do I need to update the tacos _javascript_ files or some of the tacos java code?

You'll generally need to add a hidden div in your page (styled however
you like)
and then show it when the request starts and hide it again when the
response arrives.
Then, either use custom effects -
