yes, football seems to short, because there are many variants of it, "association_football" is probably the correct synonymous term. The Oxford Dictionary doesn't classify "soccer" as a American English term, it seems to be used in the UK as well: http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/soccer Cheers, Martin
