I checked out the site stats[1] and learned that over the last 30 days,
the French forum has averaged 36 messages per day with 257 active users.
Then I headed over to talk-fr to investigate how much activity was
happening there. In the whole month of December there were just 65
posts, and I counted 21 unique users.
So it sounds like there is very little fragmentation
you don't see of course that when user A post on the forum,
the user B on the mailing doesn't respond
and when the user B post on the mailing, the user A on the forum
doesn't respond
the overwall volume (forum+mailing) is lover that when everybody was
only on one media
and the sub-projects also took a beating:
- don't look for the newcomers team, there is no real team anymore, some
on the forum, some on the mailing list, no coordination or collective
motivation
- don't look for the systematic follow-up of the schoolchildren (in
France, osm is taught at school), it's the same problem
etc etc
and all this because the pro-forum people confused haste with speed...
by giving time to time Discourse could have been a federation, a place
accessible/usable with the 2 interfaces instead of being an additional
and therefore fragmenting place
