Hi Phillip,

If you have a Linux OS on your computer you can do this directly. Otherwise, I suggest you boot TAILS with your live DVD. You'll be in a Linux (Debian) operating system. Poke around, and delete the contents of your flash drive. Try the directions in

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/install-a-new-mbr-to-your-usb-flash-device/

to rewrite the MBR. Proceed rewriting your flash drive with the Tails installer provided in your (running) Tails.

I hope this helps.

Jack

I spent several hours yesterday trying to install Tails 0.22.1 on a USB stick
with only partial success.

I first used a live DVD to boot and then installed using the Tails Installer.
This appeared to work except my computer then wouldn't recognize it as a
bootable device. It's a new (1 yr old) Gateway PC.

I then reformatted the stick as Master Boot Record. It looked like Tails
Installer only allows GUID. From there, I used the Linux on a Pen installer
(forget the exact name). This worked and boots but it doesn't allow me to use a
persistent partition.

Any way to use Tails Installer to create a MBR rather than GUID partition?
