Celeron N3060 + 2GB RAM is the one grinding to a halt in RC1.
Macbook 2,1 takes ages to boot (like 4 or 5 min), ages to load anything, but
works. HDD does not spin down.
MacBook Pro 7,1 gets burning hot with ventilator spinning like mad in RC1,
light in phone jack always stays on/red, HDD does not spin down.
Interestingly, RC1 does never ask to unplug USB when shutdown. When waking from
sleep RC1 will randomly sut down by itself.
Looking at hardware for tails 3, can you please confirm which is better:
2GB RAM Atom Z3735F or 4 GB RAM celeron N3060 or 4 GB RAM Atom Z8350
all intel HD400 graphics
Thanks for your advice.

Great, thanks for reporting :)

Ouch! I assume that this is happening on the computer with 2 GB of RAM
mentioned later in your post. It would be nice to send a complete bug
report with WhisperBack when this happens, so we can look at the logs
and see if there's something fishy:

Ideally yes, but in practice probably not: Tails 2.12 has Tor Browser
6.x (based on Firefox 45), while Tails 3.0~rc1 has Tor Browser 7.0
(based on Firefox 52). So it inevitably will change behavior,
sometimes for the best, sometimes in bad ways.

Yes, Tails 3.x is known to eat more RAM than the 2.x series.

Well, either way someone will be unhappy with the defaults.
See the reasoning that lead us to enable natural scrolling:

That's https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/5979.

This is a very frequently requested feature, that's well tracked on
our side: https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/5501; help is welcome :)
