No idea about the process of importing data but try and ensure that you add tags to say where the data came from, what licence it was released under etc.
You need to consult with the imports@ list for any imports you want to do, but there's no need for tags. Attribution is provided in accordance with 4.2c or 4.3 of the ODbL, currently done by means of the wiki page http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Contributors.

It *may* be useful to add a source tag, but that's for mapper convenience, not any legal requirements. You can also indicate source with a changeset tag.
