LESTER I believe that Shane is saying that historical data, that no LONGER EXISTS in reality, should HAVE OPT-IN tagging, RATHER than opt-out. If YOU use standard tagging and add a modifier like closed=2007, then all current renderers will show YOUR closed footpaths as still existing. If YOU wish to render a map of HISTORICAL features, then you should use tagging such as highway=disused_footway so that only people SPECIFICALLY wishing to show historical features do so.
So yes, by all means I want to keep the data in there. But it should be recognised as a distinct subset and any standard should reflect that. > Message: 10 > Date: Sun, 25 Apr 2010 11:42:49 +0100 > From: Lester Caine <les...@lsces.co.uk> > Subject: Re: [Talk-GB] OS Boundaries > To: "'talk-gb OSM List'" <talk-gb@openstreetmap.org> > Message-ID: <4bd41ca9.90...@lsces.co.uk> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed > > Shaun McDonald wrote: > > > > On 25 Apr 2010, at 07:57, Lester Caine wrote: > > > >> > >>> If a footpath gets moved do you think I should still show a way& mark > >>> it as 'this is where it used to go'? > >> 'closed=2007' makes perfect sense to me.
