this is nice, will add what I have done already. some comments for discussion. did you change the recommendation for a reason compared to the one here? http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/United_States_roads_tagging not that this is perfect but it has more information.
both definitions should be consistent and correct a few things. a list of corrections I would like. - with API 0.6 the size of relations is limited to 1000 members. many interstates have more segments. relations have to be split into smaller pieces and a "super" relation. - direction: ideally 2 relations instead 1. interstate signs, direction signs and navigation systems show the direction. osm data should contain it in the same way. map rendering should ignore direction. just the interstate sign is sufficient. same as on Garmin, Google, Yahoo maps. - ref: I tend to use the full ref like "I 80" same as we set it on the way. Simply to have it consistent and switching the renderer from using way ref to relation ref will not break the whole map. the additional redundancy will not blow the database. - name: all maps and also the tiger data has names for many motorways. but I have rarely seen any sign using the names and directional signs will always use the I XXX, US XXX, State XXXX notation. navigation systems should use same notation as signs. my proposal is to keep the names on the way and set the name on the relation to the name used on signs. As a nice side effect josm will show the name and it's easier to work with many relations loaded the same time. oops we don't map for the renderer, editor but why not make life easier On 11 Apr 2009, at 23:38 , Nicholas Vetrovec wrote: > > Posted on the US Page to help coordinate US Interstate relations. > http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Interstate_Highways_Relations > > _______________________________________________ > Talk-us mailing list > Talk-us@openstreetmap.org > http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us _______________________________________________ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
