Most other parkways use large initial caps in a green state route shield: http://alpsroads.net/roads/ny/sawmill/begin.jpg It should be reasonable to simply use the abbreviation horizontally, like the occasional (erroneous) sign: http://alpsroads.net/roads/ny/taconic/tsp.jpg
