it turns out that the demo of wineyes does come with eloquence, but I can't
get text aloud to recognize it. any ideas?

I don't think it will. The demo of Window-Eyes comes with Dectalk Access
32, but most likely due to licensing issues it doesn't include Eloquence.
I've been using Window-Eyes since version 5.0 though, so I therefore have
had no reason to look at the newest demos of the program.
