Hi Bruce Welcome to the group.
I'm not aware of any standard Meditech NMI interfaces for ABS that does what I think you're describing, but the ABS Module is pretty easy to script to. If I was you, I would take the following steps. Get someone to document the steps to perform the updates using print screens, little squiggly lines, and descriptive notes. Once you've got that, verify that you've got all the required information in the data stream you'd be getting back from the other system. If you do, you're in business. I've done a few things in Abs before. If you run into an issue where the Menu Options change based on patient, or events, let me know, and I'll dig up some code I wrote to accommodate that issue, and send it your way. As others on the list have probably heard me say before, you can script anything that can be done manually as long as the process can be documented, and the source information is available in an electronic format. I have been using BWS for about 5 months now. I was hired to write an interface between Meditech MAGIC 4.9 Abstracting module, and third party HSS's WinStrat Encoder application. It would have been nice to have a smaller project to work with since I was new to all of the products I am using. That way I would have gotten some sense of accomplishment and confidence to go forward. As it is, the interface has proven to be quite a challenge. For several reasons. And BWS has not been an issue at all. Taking into consideration that I am learning BWS as I code, and my initial newness to the commands and constructs, BWS has been a breeze. The big plus has been BWS support's great help with my questions, and the immediacy with which they handle them. HSS offers an API for WinStrat, and that was going to be a great help, except they are phasing out their message structure and going to XML. I have some XML experience, but not enough to do this quickly. However, just like BWS, HSS has great interface support, and that REALLY eased the pain. The gods are smiling on me. Now if they would only speed things up a bit! Planned next is another interface between our radiology product and module. Then there have been requests for dictionary population, screen navigation, and a Lab interface. So, that should keep me busy for a while. If there are any of those items you would be considering, especially the interfaces, I can give you a bit of insight on them, particularly project time estimation. That is something that was a gross error here. And the gotcha' wasn't necessarily the tools, but some basic assumptions and miscommunicated expectations. It's all a learning experience, isn't it?
