This is the expected behaviour when a HTML form control has a required attribute. It is exposed as invalid until valid content is entered. I think this is counter intuitive, but it is how the attribute is specified in HTML and how browsers have implemnted it thus the information is exposed in accessibility APIs and conveyed to users.
