Hello,
I have OpenBook 9 and use it all the time!  I bought it when it was first
available and have upgraded each time that was possible.  Yes, it has its
own voice but there are workarounds for that.  I don't deny that it's
expensive so there may indeed be a better choice for you.

Openbook already is a poor, expensive choice.  For my use, Omnipage 18 works
very well with all versions of Window-eyes as well as NVDA.
