At this point in time, I would not recommend either K1000 or Open Book, as access tech has improved to the point where off the shelf OCR solutions are accessible, and much less expensive. Open Book has not been updated in years, and from what I hear, there are no plans to continue development on it. K1000 has released a maintenance update, but not a full version update in a few years. If you just have to have a blindness oriented OCR solution, Docuscan Plus from Serotek is about a third of the price of OB or K1000.

You can not use Window Eyes with it. Only advantage to using Open Book is in my opinion a better user interface versus off the shelf OCR programs. I have encouraged GW over the years to produce a App w Openbook already is a poor, expensive choice. For my use, Omnipage 18 works very well with all versions of Window-eyes as well as NVDA.
