focuses primarily on the latest threats; adware, malware, spyware, trojans, 
rootkits, and web sites. And the free version does not run in real-time or 
update automatically. So it is doing nothing until you manually update it and 
manually run a scan. It is typically better at removing problems after they've 
infected your system than most anti-virus programs, which typically work best 
when things are trying to sneak in the back door.

I've had the Pro version for years and ran it along with Eset Nod32 and now MSE 
with no problems.
