Pam,
You want IE Enhance, not Browse Mode Enhance.
The one thing Chris forgot to mention is that IE Enhance won't be in the
Apps menu unless you have IE open. So just open IE and then follow
Chris's steps:
1. Open the Window-Eyes control panel.
2. Alt-A to open the Apps menu.
3. Arrow down to IE enhance and press Enter to open it.
This will land you on Notification bar options.
4. Press Enter to open it.
You should come right in on Play Sound, P, checked.
Hit Enter to uncheck it.
Within that same menu are the Read notification text and Read available
buttons check boxes, which I assume you want checked.

If you want a quiet sound, you can replace
IEEnhance.wav with one of your own keeping the same name.
This file is located in your profile directory.

The subject line poses the question. I am trying to find a way to stop
the clanging sound for downloading or saving a file in IE. The sound has
a way of waking my dear wife, and she really doesn't appreciate it, and
I really can't blame her. I have looked all over the control panel, and
also the manual and can find no reference to the matter.
Please help, my marriage may be endangered,
