Maybe i Understand some critics but Aaron is in my opinion right and had stated the things in an understandable way. I would just say the opposite here. I find it a bit a pitty seeing how few people have at least intermediate notice of their screenreader at all. In the reactions one could conclude that many people here don't even have notice that windoweyes is shipped with many apps that besides the user interface of the screenreader, are built to ease the work of so many third part programs running on a computer. Like my distributor always says in a joking way, please read at least one time the f*cking manual of the programs you buy or get. Maybe we should all do this a bit more and that could lead to a better knowledge and less own frustrations.
Again great work Aisquared.
Regards
Davy

Hi Louis,

In Aaron's defense, he is a developer, not a trainer or an instructional designer. So, we should try to appreciate the work he has done and help him improve VirtualView so it is as good as it can be. Constructive criticism and feedback is always welcomed. If Ai Squared had unlimited time and resources, he would have been able to delegate the announcement to someone like me who could have tried to present the information differently and from the perspective of a novice user. With all that said, I really like your suggestion. As time permits, I will try to develop either a step by step tutorial or a webinar to cover VirtualView in more detail. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Regards,
Marc

Well, How to start the thing going was exactly one of the missing pieces in
Aaron's announcement. But also, We need to know under what circumstances
should we find that we would need Virtual View, and what prep would we need
to set up the image, or the situation, or whatever, before invoking Virtual
View. And, can we save the results, or edit and save the results? In short,
I think we need a good demo, [Mark] with more than one or two examples, a
good Webinar, perhaps two!

Hi All,

Maybe this will help.
As you know window eyes has free apps that you can install and run with we.
They do all kinds of things like help get access to many windows programs,
help access all kinds of things etc.
Example: You can check the weather, you can get better access to outlook the
Microsoft email program and more.
Well, virtual view another free wineyes app has been upgraded with some of
the most useful features you could imagine.
So, use the free app called app get and either get or update your virtual
view app.
Then try out the new features Aaron and others are mentioning below.
Example: I just pressed ctrl-alt-v and launched the virtual view app.
I then was able to tab through the apps settings/features.
I cut and pasted a pdf file in to the Virtual View window and wow it did OCR
on the file and I could read just the text.
This is way cool, check it out and rely on your friends / users on this list
to learn more and get answers.

Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Sam

Very well put. I agree 100 percent as a guy who knows very little about
this whole thing.

Hi Aaron,

Yes virtual view sounds like a very good tool.

But I'd like to point out that computer programmers, software writers and
general computer geeks or nerds, always write with a lot of assumed
knowledge. They just assume all folks know what they know. And of
course we don't.

Case in point is your email. You mentioned virtual view. But didn't say
what is it, where do we get it, and what is the cost if any. You just
assumed.

So please could geeks and nerds and others, realise that many of us aren't
buried head first in to a computer all day and every day. It's just a
tool
we use, to live our lives.

This comment can be applied to 99 per cent of geeks and nerds. So
please could the we squared staff, remember to write from the users's
point of view when communicating?

Just a friendly tip.
All the best,

Ross.

Subject: Introducing Virtual View 5.0

Virtual View 5.0 now supports exciting new features such as the ability
to OCR images from files or the screen, plus virtualizing various
document formats, including PDF files. Here are some other features:

* You can open an image in any format (jpg, bmp, png, tiff,
etc.).
* If you press Alt-Print Screen to capture the active window,
Virtual View will automatically OCR it for you.
* The Virtual View options dialog lets you control image
manipulation to increase OCR success.
* Supports UAC, allowing you to get contents (specifically UIA)
from windows that are elevated.

* Images inside PDF files are prepended with [BEGIN
IMAGE] and appended with [END IMAGE].
* You can choose several different kinds of file formats to
virtualize, including:

*                     Txt

*                     Html

*                     Xml

*                     Zip

* And if you have Office installed:

? Docx

? Xlsx

? Pptx

Imagine a Word document filled with text boxes and word art. That
information will show up as plain text when passed through Virtual View.
Spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations are the same way. If you want
to quickly skim a PowerPoint presentation without opening PowerPoint,
use Virtual View.

With zip files, Virtual View can open the zip file and get the text of
all text files. At the very least, you can get a list of the files in
the archive.
