Thanks, I like your control-a then delete suggestion. The only reason I tried turning browse mode on while composing an e-mail was to try to figure out what I deleted from the message with the attachment, but your machine gun explanation helps me out a lot in understanding why.

Nick,

There are a few options.
You can save the attachment and attach it to a new message. You can also use the "Edit as new message" option in the message menu. But this is really the same as forwarding. It just doesn't put FWD in the subject line and it creates a new header as a new message from you. but the original text and subject are still there. Like with forwarding, you can Shift-Tab from the message body into those fields and edit them.

To delete all the text in the message body or the subject and to fields just hit Control-A to select all and then Delete. Holding down the Delete key to delete all of the message text is like a machine gun effect because it's a Window-Eyes cursor key defined to speak the character following the one you just deleted. You can also delete text by selecting it using any of the cursor movement keys with Shift added, e.g. Shift-left/right arrow to select characters, Control-Shift-left/right arrows to select words, Shift-up/down arrows to select lines, and so on. then hit Delete.

I'm not sure what you're asking when you say "when I try to turn on browse mode..." It should automatically be on when reading messages and off when in the composition window, that is, writing a new message, a reply, or a forward.

Hth,
Tom

Feel free to e-mail me off list. I'm using latest WE but am uncertain
which version of Thunderbird I am using (but I've had it for about 8
months). How can I forward an attachment (to someone) without having to
send the original e-mail which contained that attachment? Also, when I
have forwarded the original e-mail (containing the attachment), I have
tried deleting the text by holding down the delete key. That seems to
affect WE somewhat and it becomes mostly silent when I alt-tab. Also
when I try to turn on browse mode, WE says not a valid key pressed.
Thanks.
