Indeed that seems to have solved the problem. I was almost sure I
had tried that before, but perhaps I was just lured by the prior
character after, which is what I had always used before. Thanks for
taking me seriously and getting it resolved.

As per my previous email where I said exactly what I set it to, you want
to set it to "Character Before", not "Prior Character After" as you just
stated you are doing. This means before handing the right arrow to the
underlying application, first read the current Character. Then allow
the right arrow to go through to actually move to the character to the
right. Bottom line, this speaks the character you left, not the
character you are moving to. So please change the right arrow to
"Character Before" as I believe this will resolve your problem.
I didn't verify but I do seem to remember that Prior character after
isn't fully implemented with some applications. But that doesn't matter
in your case as Character Before gives you the same thing but works.
