Yes, you can. If they're on Verizon, just send a message to their ten-digit phone number at vtext dot com. Make it short, though, as text messages have a limited number of characters. I don't know what that number is.

Subject: somewhat off topic--can i text someone's phone from my computer

Dear List:

In the past, if I knew the domain of someone's cell phone, I could send a message to their phone. However, I usually do not know their domain. When anyone else texts from their phone to another phone, all they need is the ten-digit phone number. Is there a way for me to text from my computer to someone's phone with just their phone number? Thanks. Regards: Ted Larson
