Hi Dave.

Have you tried switching to different speech synthesizers?

The only other thing I can think of is the volume of your synthesizer is low.  
Window-Eyes controls the speech volume independent of the sound card, at least 
that's my experience.

If none of this works, I'd get hold of tech support.

You could uninstall and reinstall Window-Eyes, but if I did this, I'd use the 
emergency remove tool to get rid of everything WE related.
