Jim: who is this guy Dave? I talked recently to a very senior person with VFO, (as have others) and the message is essentially no on-going development of Window-Eyes.
Who would buy it anyway? Most of the recent discussion on this list has been about free screen reader solutions of one sort or another. Window-Eyes popularity has been trashed by the for Office deal and NVDA. Whilst the for Office plan might have brought about a spike in Window-eyes users, it hasn't funded on-going development. Those of us who still own Window-Eyes know that it wil function until something breaks it. The longer it is left without development, the greater the likelihood that something will break it. If the Window-Eyes support list has turned into discussing everything about access other than Window-Eyes, this sends to me a signal that no one is prepared to buy it. My admission is that switching to JFW was not based on principle. It was, and is the simple reality that at work, and now at home, it is a better tool for me. People who are talking about free alternatives to Window-eyes and who are looking at other platforms are also making pragmatic decisions. The cause(s) of these mixed messages are VFO PERSONNEL - NOT PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF WHO DISAGREE WITH YOU. It was once appropriate to voice concerns and anxieties via this list, but as things are showing themselves to be - this list is no longer moderated. If you look at list traffic, it is high volume from a small number of people. It has probably always been that there are many more Window-Eyes users than those of us discussing the product on this list. But if we needed another indidcation of the decline in Window-Eyes's future, just monitor this list. The number of participants is not increasing, and the range of threads is actulaly narrowing. These threads are also becoming more off topic. Jim: enjoy your continued use of Window-eyes, but I encourage making plans for your continued uninterrupted use of this technology. Vaughan. Vaughan. -----Original Message----- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+vaughan.dodd001=msd.govt...@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of Jim via Talk Sent: Friday, 7 April 2017 10:02 a.m. To: net bat; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: WindowsI phone and other non window eyes discussion Hi there! It seems as though I have went down this road before, Window-Eyes is still being sold at least by the Ai-Squared through VFO or whatever they're called now,and yes I talked to Dave from Ai-Squared just a few days ago. He Assured me that Window-Eyes was still alive and kicking for the forseeable future. So until I get the word from someone official I willo continue to correct these missplace messages<SMILE!>.
