Larry,
Just to clarify, don't think for a second that anyone is doing anything remotely resembling "normal" typing on these on screen keyboards. Think of them as keyboards for text messaging, brief email replies, and so on. Everyone uses real keyboards for any real typing. Otherwise, dictation works surprisingly well. But again, at least for myself, I don't consider it viable for anything of any real length. And there have been times when I've spent more time after the fact navigating back through the text to make corrections than I spent dictating it in the first place. And finally, you can only dictate so much in one shot before it simply times out and enters what it heard up to that point.
Hth,
Tom

Hey Listers,

A big thanks for so many responses to my question regarding touch screens.

As it stands, right now, I am not quite ready to get serious about using
an iDevice or any other at present. However, there is a chance that at
some point that with the flux in the screen reading field, it might be
an option for real investigation on my part.

I think it might be fun, not to mention a challenge to become
comfortable using one of these devices, but I really get the feeling
that I would ultimately cheat just a bit and use a bluetooth keyboard
for any real composition, and most likely only use the touch screen for
short texts, or in that circumstance, whatever text input scheme my
chosen device makes available.

But anyway, it is good to hear all of your advice and observations on
your use of these devices.

Thanks again,

Larry
