While the main competitor of JFW may be gone, others are emerging.

You’ve still got choice. It may not be the choice you would like to make, but,
the playing field is changing.

Neither NVDA, or System Access was around when Window-Eyes and JFW came out.
Back then, you had Slimware Window Bridge and ASAW from MicroTalk (although
that one didn’t last as long). Too, wasn’t there Artic Win Vision, though that
may have only been for Windows 3.1. Anyway, Window-Eyes and JFW were the major
players from that era that stayed around the longest.

Now, there’s still NVDA, System Access, and SuperNova. SuperNova needs to play
catch-up, a little, but, it is an option. They seem willing to accommodate
users who want to migrate to their products, as they do provide alternate
keyboard layouts. Narrator is maturing, and may be a force to be reckoned
with.

So, no monopoly here, yet. Just business.

The same thing happened in the Long Distance and local phone markets.

The AT field is no different, whether we like it or not.

Then we have a monopoly, where there is only one option.
