with some web sites you don't hear the stars until you tab out and back into the edit field and arrow over them. more and more sites give you the option to show your password. so what purpose does it serve to hide them.

Myself, I only copy and paste my password for logging into my bank
account because it's like 18 characters long. The rest of my passwords I
type them in. I don't hear anything when I type in passwords, no star,
nothing. All my passwords are stored on a thump drive, not in my
computer! I say, to each there own.
