Another example is when orienteering, knowing where a draw, saddle or point is accurately becomes important. Also, if contours are given, relief shading is a bit redundant. It's fairly easy to tell a valley from a mountain in context. However, distinguishing between a mesa and a valley might be a bit tricky.
