I don't know why I was calling them "dog bins" rather than "dog waste bins". I
first saw them somewhere near Guildford in the early 90s, and after that took
them for granted where I lived in Wolverhampton at the time and more recently
in the Clacton area. I've never owned a dog though so not looked too closely
before. The local council here calls them "dog bins" though - I have a photo of
the local recreation park sign which has a map showing them as such on the key,
and I've just searched their website (tendringdc.gov.uk) and it only finds the
"dog bin" phrase. I've not read the front of any bin in detail, and none of the
photos I took while marking are clear enough to read the text.

They don't get rendered either way, so I'll just carry on tagging them as such
(though I did tag one in Harlow yesterday, and a search of Harlow.gov.uk finds
one reference to "dog waste bin" and none to "dog bin" so wonder whether I
should tag it differently there).
