Make sure you test it in the cold though, as noted before, recharchable batteries especially tend to work worse in cold weather. Doesn't mean they won't work, just that you'll get maybe half the life out of them.
If you are going to use good alkaline batteries, don't expect them to be easily available anywhere except maybe Kathmandu. Cheap batteries will be readily available, but they will be crap quality. You generally need to find a store that aims specifically at higher class customers before you will find good batteries. This is a general rule through most of Asia, I find.
