the rendering is a way of visualizing the inserted data. I believe that there should be a way to distinguish in the data between streets and ways, that is highway=pedestrian or cycleroad and highway=footway, path, cycleway etc. without such additional tags like width=13 (which imply to a human that it is a road ).
