As far as I understand, this is not what is being proposed, but

name=London (or to be auto-generated from info below)
name:en=London
name:es=Londra
name:fr=Londres
lang=en

Exactly ... so that translations have a clean set of name:xxx direct from the tag without having to work out if the unidentified name is in some particular language, or it may be a combination of two anyway ...
