A normal mapping trip for me is 1-2 hours and 200 photos. I use the camera in my phone (I got through too many compact digital cameras) which can nicely be used with one hand while cycling and a garmin GPS for the track log. A habit of taking a photo of the GPS' clock at the start of each trip/day is good so you can check they sync well in JOSM.
