The standard OSM.org map style is actually completely neglected, not just for non-Western users. Several people have converted the style to CartoCSS [1], which is much friendlier to edit. Before talking about getting Japanese/Korean style features rendered on the OSM.org standard map, someone should first demonstrate it is possible, but making sure an appropriate tagging system is in place and creating a map style.
