I understood you wanted it left on priority 1 until this message. Ok I've
changed it now to priority 2 the tones now work thanks very much. I notice
the speech volume drops when using priority factor 2 but as volume can be
added as an app specific setting that should not be a problem.
Thanks again for your help.

Again, did you change the priority to 2? You are just saying you press
SoftKey1 and not Select. There is a difference on what SoftKey1 does and
What Select does. When you press SoftKey1 to change this setting, then you
have to arrow down to priority 2 and you are not doing this. So you are
leaving it at 1 and aren't changing anything. If you listen to what is
being said after you pressed SoftKey1 you would have herd that it was
still at one and didn't change to 2. I always stress to all people listen
to what Talks is telling you. In many cases you will catch when things are
changed or not.

When I went in to that setting audio priority 1 was checked I pressed ok
softkey1 then back softkey2 and softkey2 to exit. I also did this with
skype as I've noticed when you switch to skype the speech volume drops
when using eloquence. Skype seems a little better but as for playing
tones when in settings general personalize tones or in clock as I set
the setting there as well but it makes no difference if talks is not
muted you just don't hear the tones. It works in profiles.
But I've noticed when profiles is open the speech volume drops slightly
and sounds muffles with less top end.

OK! You are half way there Bernard. Now you need to go into the program
where the tones aren't playing, then go back into the App. Specific
settings and you will find the audio priority and it will show 1. Now
you can press Select and the Audio priority will then show 2. At this
point, you can press SoftKey2 to back out and have the setting saved.
Press SoftKey2 again to exit the Talks settings. Now exit the program in
which you are having trouble. After you have exited the program! You can
now get back into it. Now give it a try and see if the tones work.
The App. Specific settings will override what ever is in the main Talks
settings window. This is how you can override settings only for one
program. As you can see, you can have many settings over ridden at one
time. So if you want to have Talks mute for this program, you can add
this to the App. Specific setting and then set the value to what you
want for that setting. Then when you go into this program, Talks will
automatically mute for you.
The App. Specific settings is a very powerful tools. I would say to play
with it and this way you hopefully will gain a better idea of how to use
them. Just remember wants you have added a new App. Specific field to be
watched! It will have the default value in it, You then need to change
the value to what you want it to be before you exit the App. Specific
settings. Then after this, the App. Specific value will override what
ever is in the Talks main Settings window.

that is what I thought you said when I add the value from the list of
30 options there are then 29 values left. I did this while I was in
settings general personalize tones. Now when I go back there and
click on app specific settings talks says audio priority 1. Tones are
only heard when I mute talks.
I was certain I followed your instructions but as I have not had to use
app specific settings before I thought I had better check the added
value had been saved

You need to change the Audio priority to 2 from 1 and then make sure
that the setting remains when you exit the App. Specific settings.
Priority of 1 is the default. Priority of 2 will only be there is you
change it to 2. So in this case, it sounds like you left it at 1 and
didn't chagne it to 2. Then what I would do is to exit the program and
get back into it after first initially changing the priority.

Thanks for your help, I found the audio priority setting in app
specific settings but it was already set to one by default and so
makes no difference. when the tone list opens there are currently
about 1200 tracks and tones to choose from. The only thing that
works now is to mute talks which I am fairly sure was not the case
before the last update.

Try changing the audio priority from 1 to 2 for the program that is
having trouble playing the audio files. This is in the Talks
setting, options, audio, then select whit one you are using and
change it. This is the system wide way to see if it fixes the issue.
Is it does, then you can set a application specific setting for that
program.

As far as the tone not playing it could be because of the number of
files it
has to load. IF you have a lot of audio files then it may take a bit
to
load. If nothing else mute talks.

Well I just discovered another problem with the latest update and
talks.
When you select tones for clock alarm ring tones and so on they
won't play
in settings personalize tones. The same applies in clock settings
alarm
tone. In fact they now will only play when personalizing profiles.
Ok when I went to change the clock alarm tone a few minutes ago and
they
could not be heard I went back to music player as it was loaded at
the time
and closed it. When it still did not function I removed skype from
memory.
When this also had no effect I rebooted the e72-2. When the tones
still
would not play when selecting them I went in to the talks program
and speech
and switched to Nokia tts speech. The situation is still the same.
When
personalizing profiles you can hear the tones when making your
selection.
In tones clock and calendar their respective alarm tones can not be
heard
when the user is changing tones.
I know this worked before the update on the e72-2 and n86 but since
the
update at least on the e72-2 you have to use profiles when choosing
tones
which won't help with calendar and clock.
