Tangueros!
Many of you have been asking about the dates, plans, schedule, price etc for
the Portland ValenTango. So, here's the scoop.
Teachers: Our policy for the ValenTango is to select a small exclusive group
of teachers. I have invited the top four teachers from this year's TangoFest,
Miriam & Hugo and Felipe & Kat, and one of last year's most popular instructor,
Jorge Nel. In addition, we are fortunate and excited to be adding Alicia Pons.
Alicia is an elegant and accomplished milonguero style dancer who dances,
teaches, and performs with Cacho Dante in Buenos Aires. Alicia has had very
limited exposure in the United States, but from viewing a video tape of her
dancing and teaching, and from listing to rave review of leaders who have
danced with her, I believe she will make an enormous contribution to the style,
technique, elegance and that elusive quality that makes a great follower so
desirable.
Venues: All workshops and the Thursday and Sunday milongas will be at the
fabulous Viscount Ballroom, 722 E Burnside. The Friday and Saturday milonga
will be held at the elegant and roomy Norse Hall, 111 NE 11th, just 5 blocks
from the Viscount. Both locations have a full bar. Minors may attend all
events except evening milongas at the Viscount. Stay at the Thriftlodge (949 E
Burnside, 503-234-8411, mention tango at the Viscount for discount) which lies
midway between the Viscount and Norse Hall and you can walk to everything!
