In the 1950s during the Golden Age of the milongas, Mi Club was one of many places where the young milongueros danced. For a few months in 2001, it was the location for a matinee milonga and is now open on Tuesdays. Mi Club is located two blocks off Corrientes on Suipacha between Lavalle and Tucuman.
Milongueros Ricardo Suarez and Luis Trapasso are hosting this weekly milonga where you are assured to find milongueros. They had 300 attend the opening day which lasted until 2am. Ricardo (incredible at 80 years) danced a few tandas of milonga con traspie during the evening. The club has a large floor, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, and a good sound system. Aurelio Filipini and Delia Nasra (better known as Lito y Lidia), winners of the city-wide tango championship in March, gave a spectacular exhibition. They will be competing at the II Campeonata de Tango, August 17-22. Both in their 70s, they define the elegance of tango! I was mesmerized watching them--if only I had remembered to bring along my camcorder! Mi Club Suipacha 592 (downstairs) Tuesdays 18-1 hs. Pichi de Buenos Aires
