Martin,

though it's a pleasure to view your beautiful dancing partner ...

... BUT: is it really that difficult to understand and *respect* the teachers
and their intellectual property???!!! Not everything that can be put online
should be put online at the end!!! :-(((

Gustavo & Giselle, as well as other teachers, need to earn the money and life
by teaching ... and if everyone would just video-record their lessons and
step-combinations and put them online: who would attend the classes in future?

And please don't forget an extra point: while maybe your employer pays for a
pension scheme for you ... artists (dancers, musicians, et cetera) usually
don't have such an insurance. When they get older they will still need to earn
their living through their shows and teaching!

In conclusion: I can fully understand that G&G (and others) don't want people
to record their lessons (b/c people will put it online without asking their
permission) I think it's great that G&G allow you to record yourself dancing
*during* their classes _for_your_own_personal_use_ ... but those videos should
not be put online (except you've obtained the teacher's explicit permission
beforehand).

Some teachers give summary demonstrations at the end of their classes which may
be video recorded. Even with those it should be clear that without the explicit
permission of the teachers these video recordings should not be online!

The more the people put the videos online without asking permission (or not
respecting the explicit 'no') the more teachers will stop doing these summaries
at the end of their classes. This would be a great pity to those who pay for
the classes, wouldn't it?!

Of course I am aware of other options like the wonderful 'tangostudent' series
usually recorded at "The Beat" practica in Berkley (group around Homer &
Cristina, Fernando et others)! I love those initiatives, and IMHO one should
encourage teachers to act the same way (to promote their teaching) but one
should also respect the teachers who do not want this!

Kind regards,
Christian

ps: after starting this mail I got a tango musician visitor. I recently had the
honors of taking photo and video recordings of their concert at the local
milonga when they presented their first CD. I have a couple of video recordings
with their music - but I would *never* put these on Youtube or similar without
their prior permission! And from the reaction I got tonight: you'll probably
soon find some of the material on Youtube .. but put online by themselves! I
gave them all the original material, including RAW photo files. (if there's one
thing I can do to support young musicians, I do my best) ... BTW: check out
their website at www.nocturna.nl
