I mostly agree with what has been said so far and just want to add two
points.

I do. A significant part of the 'web development community' is
conceptually on the level of ASP/PHP/CGI scripting or maybe JSP if they're
'advanced'. I do know from experience that may people do not even remotely
understand the advantages of a component architecture. Struts has the
added advantage that its so absurdly twisted that you can start feeling
good once you get something runnig. Since everybody else is using it, you
get an immediate feelgood rush. Yes, I know I'm cynical.
