Glad this came up... I am in the process of building #1 and with twin (almost 4 year old) boys and a brand new daughter the $ and time for this project could not have come at a more time constraining period of my life. Anyhow, I am a very busy person by nature so I guess it all works out. Back to the point, while at the Symposium this year I asked Mr. Gilchrist to look at my mando as one of the builder students notice my action was high for her and after looking at my little old eastman 815, steve noticed my neck had a concave bend to it. So bring it by the class room and let's fix it.
So, I sat in the class watching, this made me so curious and confident in my chances of being able to put one together. I am on to my third neck and it is amazing how much you learn each time. Going from blue prints and the Siminoff book help me with precise measurements of entire pieces but my issue with the neck is the dovetail joints distance from the nut really seems to get me. I have also started carving my tops and back. And although the project is nowhere near completion it sure does get satisfiying seeing the pieces coming together. Any measurements on the joint would be a great help!
