Thanks for your quick answer! What's the name/purpose of these services?

To be more specific, I'd actually prefer examples of single 
(synchronous) services (processors), not a complete workflow. I'm a 
computer scientist, not a bioinformatician, so I'm not that familiar 
with common, well-known services.
