That is a very interesting paper, thanks. It fits in well with some work 
we (at Manchester) are doing on a European biodiversity project called 
BioVeL (http://www.biovel.eu). I have played with using the REST 
interface to access WMS servers.

You mention "A web based graphical editor is being developed based on 
the WireIt! API" - is that one that you are developing? We are also 
working on the same thing :-)
