Guten Morgen,

TF> I've never had runtime errors with Voyager.

I have - on average about one runtime error every two hours. But I'm
delighted to agree that the latest Voyager version is much better
here. I've seen errors here, too, but there are so few of them that I
can't give a similar "average per hour". There's indeed progress here.

TF> I also find that the reaction speed depends on the host computer.

Certainly. However, my impression is that the new version is quicker
on the same machine I had been using before.

AS>> However, still no MessageList/"Column AutoWith" option, not in
AS>> TheBat nor in Voyager:
TF> I don't know what you mean. When I run Voyager on computers that have

No, not "of course", and indeed it is:

Up to TheBat v3.0.1.33 there used to be an option in message
list/setup columns named "Autosize". When it was checked, the
columns kept their ratio towards each other, but were always scaled up
to fill the whole width of the window. If you opened TheBat on a small
screen, all the columns were shrunk proportionally, if you used a
large screen, they were expanded over the whole window width so no
space was wasted. In the newer versions of TheBat (Voyager didn't
exist back then) this option has been removed without a replacement.
It is only since that you have to fiddle with column widths every time
you switch screens.

This is why I'm still using TheBat v3.0.1.33. Incidentally, this
affair is also why I'm not recommending TheBat any more neither for
private nor for business use any more.

TF> With TB!, it is installed on a PC, and the resolution isn't
TF> changed that often.

Not here: I have an installation on which the same message base files
are used by multiple clients over a network. This way, not every
client has to fetch new mail for itself and laptops can be easily
synchronized using Windows Offline Folders. Naturally, not all of the
machines have the same screen width, and some users even like
different view schemes than others. But the view modes are not stored
locally, but in the message base. There can only be one view mode
for one folder on the whole network. With "Autosize" that could be
worked around, without the option it cannot.

TF> Am I misunderstanding you?

Not at all, but maybe you only know the crippled versions of TheBat.
There were versions before that worked like the user wished to, not
uses that worked the way RIT wished them to. That were the times when
you could recommend TheBat whole heartedly. Well, "The times they are
a-changin'."
